Land for Shamuka project to be acquired

The Orissa Government has begun the process of acquiring 626 acre for its proposed Shamuka tourism project.

The project needs 2,500-3,000 acre in all. The state government has already acquired around 970 acre for the Rs 3,500-crore project while land acquisition is expected to be completed by end-2010.

The project is being developed near Sipasarubali, about 10 km south of Puri on PPP mode.

After land acquisition process is completed, the Orissa Tourism Development Corporation is likely to invite fresh bids for the project.

The project comprises four five-star hotels, convention centre, an 18-hole golf course, boutique hotels, international spa and wellness centres, an entertainment zone and sports facilities.

Adani plans port in Paradip

The Adani Group proposes to set up a port near Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district of Orissa at an investment of Rs 10,000 crore.

The port project called Adani Kalinga Port is to be developed in two phases having a capacity of 100 million tpa.

According to sources, the group intends to invest Rs 5,000 crore in Phase I and an equivalent amount in Phase II. The port which is expected to have 12 berths, will handle coal, iron ore, liquid and containerised cargo.

The group also plans to develop an industrial zone in the port area. Plans are afoot to develop a road and railway network within the port as well.

OPGCL’s expansion project at Banaharpalli gets MoEF nod

The MoEF has accorded approval to the 2×660 MW expansion of the already operational thermal power plant set up by Orissa Power Generation Corporation (OPGCL), located at Banaharpalli, in Jharsuguda district of Orissa.

The coal requirement, of 6.73 million tonne at 80 per cent plant load factor will be met from the Manoharpur and dip-side of Manoharpur coal blocks in the Ib Valley area, which contains a total reserve of 531 million tonne.

The water requirement of 4,100 cubic mtrs per hour is to be sourced from the Hirakud reservoir, the linkage to which has been accorded by the State Government.

Medicity planned in Jagatpur

Sahyog Foundation plans to set up a Medicity at Jagatpur near Cuttack and a college and hospital at Keonjhar in Orissa at an outlay of Rs 1,100 crore. The amount is to be raised through a mix of debt and contributions from the promoters and Non-Resident Indians.

The foundation has commenced land acquisition process for the Rs 900-crore medicity. The project is to comprise a 150-seater medical college, 700-bed hospital, homeopathic college, an ayurvedic college and other public amenities like a shopping mall, gymnasium, swimming pool and food court. The project is expected to be operational by 2014.

The Keonjhar project entailing a cost of Rs 200 crore will have a medical college with 50 seats to begin with and a 300-bed hospital. Sahyog is to sign the MoU with the Orissa Government for setting up the project shortly.

Phase I of Dhamra port by July

Dhamra Port Company (DPCL) is likely to commission the Phase I of the Rs 2,400-crore Dhamra Port in Orissa by July 2010.

DPCL, a 50:50 JV of Tata Steel and L&T began the port project work in April 2007. The port is being developed in phased manner.

In the Phase I, DPCL is likely to install two fully mechanised berths of 350 mtrs each with a capacity to handle 27 million tpa along with a backup facility to undertake imports of coking coal, steam coal, limestone and export of iron ore.

The company plans to set up 13 berths with a capacity to handle more than 100 million tpa of dry and liquid bulk cargoes including containers in the 18-km-long sea shore. The berths are designed for draught of 18 mtrs capable of handling cape size vessels up to 1,80,000 DWT (dead weight tonnage).

Further, Tata Steel plans to build a 62-km rail track between Dhamra and Bhadrak on the main Howrah-Chennai line.

STC approves 230 MW Solar project

The State Level Technical Committee (STC), Orissa, has given approval to solar power projects with an aggregate power generation of 230 MW.

It includes two solar thermal power plants with a combined generation capacity of 125 MW. ACME Tele Power is likely to set up a 100 MW solar thermal power plant either in Bolangir or in Khurda district, while a 25 MW plant is to come up in Khurda district.

Besides, solar photo-voltaic power projects with an aggregate generating capacity of 105 MW have been cleared by the STC. Power plants with a combined generation capacity of 60 MW are likely to come up in six locations like Nabarangpur, Koraput, Phulbani, Bolangir, Dhenkanal and Sambalpur . Other projects include 20 MW plant at Bolangir; 5 MW at Ganjam; Abacus Holding’s 5 MW plant at Nabarangpur; 10 MW unit at Khurda; and Green O Lite’s 5 MW unit at Kalahandi.

JSL to set up stainless steel park in Orissa

The Orissa Government signed an MoU on 4 February 2010 with JSL for setting up a stainless steel park at Kalinganagar where the company is setting up a 1.6 million tonne integrated stainless steel plant. JSL is likely to pump in Rs 704 crore to develop the park.

As per the MoU, JSL is expected to develop, promote and manage the stainless steel park. It will provide internal infrastructure like roads, drainage, water and power and other external infrastructure linkages.

Around 300 acre will be required for the complex and is to be provided by the state government.

Rukura irrigation project gets green signal

The Planning Commission has accorded clearance to the Rs 300-crore Rukura medium irrigation project in Sundergarh district of Orissa, to be implemented under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme.

About 5,700 ha of farm land is to be irrigated by the project. The land acquisition work is underway and the project is slated to be completed by 2014

According to sources, the tender work for the project and the construction of the model colony are in progress. Simultaneously, the rehabilitation and resettlement work is in advanced stages of completion.

Orissa seeks inclusion of 11 projects under Solar Mission

The Orissa Government has requested the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Sources for inclusion of 11 solar power projects with a total generation of 64 MW under the Solar Mission launched by the Union Government recently.

Orissa Renewable Energy Development Agency, the nodal agency for promotion of renewable energy in the state, has sent the list of these projects and their developers to the ministry for this purpose.

The projects which are eligible for migration under the Solar Mission are Alex Solar (5 MW), Apollo Renewable Energy (5 MW), Photon Solar System (9 MW), Mahalaxmi Solar (10 MW), Enzen Global (5 MW), Lanco Solar (5 MW), RSB Energy (5 MW), Moserbaer’s grid interactive solar photo voltaic project (5 MW), Sunark Solar (5 MW), SREI Infrastructure (5 MW) and Sahara India (5 MW).
