Bedabahal UMPP faces hurdles

The 4,000 MW Bedabahal ultra mega power project (UMPP) may hit a road block as the captive coal mines linked with the project now figures in the list of areas prohibited for mining activities by the MoEF.

The UMPP has been allocated three coal blocks, out of which Minakshi B and dipside of Minakshi, fall in the prohibited region.

The project which requires an investment of about Rs 20,000 crore is a pit-head power project. Orissa Integrated Power, a SPV of PFC has invited RFQs and RFPs, last date of submission being 30 July 2010.
