NTPC to set up medical college & hospital in Odisha

National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) signed an MoU with the Odisha government for setting up a medical college and hospital in Sundergarh district at an investment of Rs 350 crore.

The state government is likely to provide 20 acres of land at Sundergarh town free of cost for the purpose. The project is likely to be completed by 2016-17. The medical college will have 100 MBBS seats as per the norms prescribed by the Medical Council of India and the hospital will have 400-beddded one.

Three medical college-cum-hospitals are already in the process of being set up in the tribal-dominated districts of Keonjhar, Kalahandi, Talcher (Angul), and at Sundergarh.

Orissa to develop Health City

The Orissa Government intends to develop an integrated health city in the state. The proposed health city will be built on the outskirts of Orissa on 150-200 acre. Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation of Orissa (IDCO) has prepared the concept note for the project. It will have various components including super speciality hospital, medical college, residential zones, high-end diagnostic centre and common infrastructure facilities.

Emami Group to investment in Orissa

The Emami Group of Companies plans to set up a multi-speciality hospital, expand existing newsprint plant at Balasore and market edible oils in Orissa.

Presently, Emami has a newsprint production capacity of 1,50,000 tpa at the existing plant at Balasore and will invest around Rs 500 crore in adding capacity of 1,30,000 tpa, to be achieved within two years.

Emami is setting up its AMRI Hospital with a bed strength of 700 at present, which is to be raised to 2,000 over the next 18 months. The expansion will involve an investment of Rs 700 crore.

The company is to pump in Rs 1,600 crore on the edible oils business in the next five years out of which Rs 600 crore will be on setting up two new refineries, Rs 70 crore on expansion of the Haldia refinery (West Bengal) and Rs 100 crore on brand building.

Around 160 companies bid for the AIIMS-type institutes

Indian Express reports, there is an unprecedented response for tenders for the construction of new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-type medical institutions in Patna, Raipur, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Jodhpur and Rishikesh.

Sources in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare says around 160 construction companies joined the bidding making it more competitive.

Thanks to the incentive package, if the construction of the institute is completed within the stipulated time or little in advance of the scheduled time, the company would get benefit of Rs 10 crore at one stroke. As per the detailed project report, construction cost of each institution, which comprises the medical colleges and the hospital, is around Rs 300 crore and for the all the six institutes, the cost would be around Rs 1800 crore.

Apollo to open hospital in Bhubaneshwar by January

Apollo Hospitals is setting up a 300-bed multi-specialty hospital in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa, which is expected to become functional by January 2010.

The company has spent Rs 120 crore on the hospital which is spread over seven acre. The hospital is to have 33 critical beds including neonatal intensive care units, five operation theatres including one dedicated to obstetrics and gynaecology and eight dialysis beds.

The company is likely to expand the hospital into a 500-bed one in the future.

According to sources, the company also plans to set up the Apollo Knowledge Health City spread over 100 acre. However, the location and other details for this project are yet to be worked out.
