Phase-I of Kalinganagar project to commission by 2014

Tata's Kalinganagar ProjectTata Steel is likely to commission phase I of Kalinganagar project by August 2014. The company is setting up a six million tpa greenfield steel project in Odisha. The phase I of the project with three million tpa capacity will entail an investment of around Rs 25,000 crore.

In addition to this, Tata Steel also plans to introduce two more new industrial park projects at Gopalpur, first is bar mill and the second one is ferroalloys plant. Tata steel will invest Rs 1,000 crore on both the projects. The ferroalloys plant will have capacity of 50,000 tonne per annum with an investment of around Rs 200 to 250 crore whereas the bar mills project will require an investment of around Rs 750 to Rs 800 crore. However, the company seeks coastal regulatory zone nod for both the projects.

NTPC to start work on Darlipalli project from 2013

NTPC is planning to start construction work on super thermal power plant at Darlipalli in Sundergarh district of Orissa from January 2013.

Work on 1600 MW (2×800) coal based power plant will commence on soon after getting possession of land from the state government that is expected by December 2012. The plant requires 1,652 acre. The state government will get 50 per cent power from super thermal power plant. The project will be commissioned within four years after work starts on it.

Visa Steel, SunCoke Energy to form JV

VISA Steel and SunCoke Energy, Inc have signed agreements to form a coke-making JV in India.

SunCoke Energy will invest approximately Rs 368 crore to acquire a 49 per cent stake in the JV while VISA Steel will hold the remaining 51 per cent. The JV, which will be unlevered at closing, will be comprised of VISA Steel’s existing 4,00,000 tpa heat recovery coke plant and associated steam generation units at Kalinganagar in Odisha. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2013, subject to customary conditions, including approval from VISA Steel shareholders.

BDA invites bids for residential complex

The Bhubaneswar Development Authority has invited bids from eligible companies for development of residential complex in the state.

The bids have been invited for development of integrated commercial / residential complex over 3.260 ha of prime land at Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar in Khurda district of Orissa. Last date for the submission of bids is 11 January 2013.

IB Valley Thermal Power Project: Update

BHEL has emerged L1 (lowest bidder) for supplying equipment for Odisha Power Generation Corporation’s 2×660 MW thermal power project at Ib valley in the state. However, the financial details of the contract could not be ascertained.

Three companies — BHEL, Larsen & Toubro and Chinese firm Dong Fang had submitted final price bids. However, an official announcement in this regard is likely to be made on 23 November 2012.

OPGC also plans to add two more units of 660 MW each soon. Four companies — BHEL, Larsen & Toubro, Dong Fang and BGR Energy had submitted initial bids for this OPGCL project.

Essar’s iron ore berth project to commission soon

Essar Ports is likely to commission its 16-million tonne iron ore berth at the Paradeep Port in Odisha soon.

The company has completed civil and engineering work. Currently, it is awaiting an official approval to formally commission the facility. The Rs 520-crore iron ore berth project, with an installed capacity of 16 million tpa, has a 75:25 debt equity component.

In 2009, the company was awarded the 30-year concession BOT order from the Paradip Port Trust. The contract involves building a mechanised berth of 370 mtrs length.

Also, it has bagged a contract to develop a 14-million tonne coal berth terminal at the Paradeep Port. In June 2012, it had obtained forests clearances for this project.

Bids invited to set up Plastic Park at Paradeep

The Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) has invited EoIs for selection of co-developers to develop a plastic park at Paradip in Jagatsingpur district of Odisha. Last date for the submission of EoIs is 22 November 2012.

IDCO, the nodal agency to implement the project, has received in-principle approval from Central Govt. for development of the project. Land for the project has already been acquired.

The proposed project is located on a parcel of 150 acres in the village Rangiagarh on the outskirts of Paradeep at approximately 2.5 Kms from the IOCL refinery and on the IOCL road.

OKCL to set up 1000 learning Centres

The Odisha Knowledge Corporation Limited (OKCL) is planning to set up Authorized Learning Centers (ALC) throughout the state.

In the first phase around 1000 training centers will be opened in different districts of the state on PPP mode. It has set a target to make these centres functional by end of the current year. Schools, colleges, poly-techniques, ITIs, ITCs, computer training centers, cyber cafes and individual entrepreneurs from different block head quarters, urban and semi-urban areas can apply on line for being registered as ALC.

It has been officially decided that OKCL will act as the agency for promotion of IT & ITES knowledge.
