Tourism Dept. plans aquarium in Puri

The Department of Tourism, Orissa is planning to set up an aquarium project in Puri on PPP basis.

The department has, thus invited bids from potential developers for setting up the project. The bids in form of (Request for Proposals) RFPs have been invited for development of public aquarium on DBFOT basis at Puri – Konark Marine Drive in Orissa on PPP mode. The project is likely to spread over 20 acre with an operational period of 50 years. The last date for submission of RPFs is 29 January 2013.

Odisha to invite fresh bids for Shamuka project

The Odisha Government is likely to call for fresh bids for the Rs 3,500-crore Shamuka tourism project in Puri district in December 2012.

The Phase I bid envisages development of four five star hotels and a golf course hotels at the site. The state tourism department is likely to submit the contours soon to the state government for approval. Apart from five star hotels and an 18 hole golf course, the beach project will have facilities like a convention centre of international standards with a seating capacity of nearly 1,500 people, boutique hotels, international spa and wellness centres, an entertainment zone and sports facilities. The entire project is to be developed over an area of 3,000 acre on PPP mode.

Earlier, bids were invited for setting up hotels under this project. However, the interested players did not submit their financial bids citing economic downturn then. The selected bidders included Taj Group of Hotels and Resorts, ITC, Park Hotels, Ananda Spa, Emaar MGF, DLF etc.

Meanwhile, Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco) will initiate steps for completion of internal roads while energy and water resources department are asked to ensure water and power supply by June 2013.

NECL receives MoU clause waiver for Astaranga port

The Orissa Government has relaxed a clause in its MoU with the Hyderabad based Navayuga Engineering Company (NECL), enabling NECL to sign concession agreement with it for developing an all weather port at Astaranga in Puri district.

The clause stated that the developer has to obtain all the statutory clearances before signing the concession agreement. However, NECL had pleaded before the state government that it should be allowed to sign the concession agreement without obtaining all the statutory clearances, so as to expedite work on the project.

The company proposes to invest Rs 1,500 crore for the port project in the Phase I, Rs 2,000 crore in Phase II and Rs 2,500 crore in Phase III.
